Tracking Erick Threets
Posted by Paul under: Extended Family Info .
This is some information found about some of our Extended Family. Most of you know that when Chris was growing up, one of his best friends was Erick Threets. I hope that most of you already know who he is because he is a great guy. Well, Erick has been blessed with the amazing ability to throw a baseball extremely hard (has been clocked at over 100mph). Because of this talent, he was obviously picked up by a major league baseball team (SF Giants) and has been working on getting into the majors ever since. This is not an easy task because unlike the NFL or NBA, MLB has a “learning/proving” ground called the minor leagues where talent is developed. It’s not given that you will ever make it into the big leagues. The good news is that along with being a great guy, Erick is a hard worker with a great family structure support system.
So, needless to say, Erick has always been somebody that I try to track the progress of to see what his progress is. This year, he finally made the big leagues and was on the opening day roster for the SF Giants. Unfortunately, there were some set backs (injury), and that opportunity was taken away when he was sent back down.
There is a brief background of what I know and have learned using the fantastic tool called google.
Here is a link to a very recent article/interview with Erick that talks briefly about where he has been, where he is now, and where he is going. I know that with his hard work, he will bounce back and hopefully another local team (cough… Oakland A’s) will open their eyes and realize that there is this local talent just waiting to be given another chance. You just don’t come across too many left handed 95+mph pitchers that often.
Threets jarred by lack of interest – Grizzlies lefty figured he’d still be in majors.
I hope to post a follow-up article soon that details his journey back to the majors, as well as any other articles that I find from here on out. I know this family is always interested in knowing his progress, and I am sure some of you are interested too.
